Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, under ‘Operation ZAFIN WUTA’, have carried out a security operation in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State to protect farmers and dismantle suspected bandits’ hideouts.
The operation, conducted over the weekend, was aimed at ensuring a safe harvest season and maintaining peace as residents prepare for the yuletide, the army said in a statement made available to journalists in Jalingo on Saturday.
Signed by the acting spokesperson of the brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, the statement said the operation was launched following concerns raised by residents of Chanchanji community over possible attacks by criminals during the harvesting of crops.
In response, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, who had earlier visited the community, assured farmers of adequate security.
He reiterated that the army would not allow criminal elements to disrupt farming activities or threaten the livelihoods of law-abiding citizens, especially during the critical harvest period.

The statement said troops arrived in Chanchanji Town and, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups, provided security for farmers travelling to Demevaa Village, about 19 kilometres away.
At the same time, soldiers conducted patrols and clearance operations in Sabe, Iyongaem, Yongu, Adigi, Kpenwe, Tse-Iorver and Tse-Tseve villages under Chanchanji Ward, flushing out criminal elements and restoring public confidence.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops also advanced into the Zambana Forest, identified as a suspected hideout for armed bandits terrorising nearby communities.
“The forest and surrounding areas were thoroughly combed, significantly degrading the criminals’ ability to operate in the area,” the brigade said.
Brigadier General Uwa reassured residents of Takum and Taraba State that the 6 Brigade remains fully deployed and proactive in safeguarding lives, property and farmlands throughout the harvest season and beyond.
He urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to sustain peace and stability during the festive period.
