The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has launched several important projects at the Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos, aimed at improving the welfare of personnel and the operational readiness of the Nigerian Army.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Gen. Appolonia Anele, on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the projects inaugurated include a renovated basketball court sponsored by First Bank, an upgraded Quarter Guard at the 9 Brigade Headquarters funded by Airpeace Airlines, and the newly completed 9 Brigade Headquarters Complex, which was developed under the leadership of the former Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mathew Oyekola.
The statement also confirms that during his visit, General Shaibu also planted a tree within the barracks to symbolize the Army’s commitment to environmental sustainability. In his remarks at the inauguration, he praised the support from corporate partners and encouraged ongoing collaboration to enhance barracks facilities and personnel welfare.
The Army Chief is on a two-day official visit to formations and units within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.
