The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has unveiled a series of landmark projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, including a state-of-the-art Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Village named in honor of the late Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, January 21, 2024, at the prestigious academy.

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede highlighted the importance of utilizing government resources efficiently to address Nigeria’s current security challenges. He explained that the newly inaugurated village is designed to simulate real-world scenarios, providing cadets with practical training to prepare them for the field. This initiative, he noted, aligns with the academy’s mission to produce highly skilled and disciplined military leaders.

In addition to the Counter Terrorism Village, several other projects were inaugurated, including a modern auditorium for the Army Wing, residential quarters for junior ranks, and the foundation for a new cadet mess and classroom blocks at the NDA Boarding Secondary School. These developments aim to enhance the learning and living conditions at the academy, fostering a conducive environment for future military leaders.

Lt.-Gen. Oluyede paid glowing tribute to the late Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja, describing him as a pragmatic and exemplary field officer who made significant contributions to the nation’s security. “Naming this village after Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja is a fitting tribute to his legacy. He was a leader who gave his all to Nigeria, and we are proud to honor his memory in this way,” Oluyede remarked.

The Army Chief emphasized that the NDA is a cornerstone in shaping the future of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He reiterated the need for continuous investment in infrastructure and training facilities to ensure that cadets receive the best preparation for the challenges ahead.

The event highlighted the enduring legacy of Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja and the Nigerian Army’s commitment to excellence in military education and training.
