The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has lauded the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for their significant role in balancing family responsibilities while their spouses dedicate themselves to national service.
In a meeting at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, General Oluyede hosted NAOWA President Mrs. Mernan Oluyede and her delegation. He used the occasion to commend the association’s unwavering support and called on its new leadership to prioritize unity and inclusivity within its ranks.
The COAS emphasized NAOWA’s critical role in promoting charity and fostering a sense of community, pointing out their heartfelt assistance to Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja during her bereavement following the loss of former COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. Pledging his continued support, General Oluyede described NAOWA as a pillar of strength for the Nigerian Army.

In her remarks, Mrs. Mernan Oluyede congratulated the COAS on his appointment and shared her vision for NAOWA’s future. She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to unity and preserving the impactful legacies of its past leaders.
“Our mission is to enhance humanity through service and the creation of lasting legacies,” she stated, outlining plans to improve living standards for NAOWA members, increase community outreach, and empower future generations.
Mrs. Oluyede also urged the Nigerian Army for sustained support to achieve the association’s goals, expressing optimism about the nation’s security and stability under the leadership of the COAS.
