The Nigerian Army’s 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has urged members of the public to refrain from speculation capable of undermining the ongoing investigation into the death of a teenage boy, Timothy Daniel, which occurred on January 1, 2026.
Timothy was reportedly killed in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state, amid allegations that a soldier attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited shot him during an altercation. The incident was said to have occurred while the minor attempted to intervene as the soldier allegedly made sexual advances toward his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel.
In a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Captain Lawal Muhammad, stressed that investigations into the incident were still ongoing and that no conclusions had been reached.
According to the Army spokesperson, the Nigerian Army promptly instituted an investigation in line with standard procedures to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The investigation is currently ongoing, and no findings or conclusions have been reached at this stage,” Muhammad stated, adding that the public should avoid comments or speculation that could prejudice the process.
He assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public upon its conclusion, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
The Nigerian Army also expressed its sympathy and condolences to the family of the deceased, while appreciating the cooperation and understanding of the public.
Muhammad reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism, strict adherence to rules of engagement, and accountability in the conduct of its personnel, noting that the institution remains resolute in upholding discipline and justice.
“The Nigerian Army commiserates with the family and loved ones of Timothy Daniel over this painful loss and prays for the repose of his soul,” the statement added.
