The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, officially declared open the Nigerian Army Ball Games 2025, featuring 250 athletes competing in various sports.
The week-long athletic events which commenced on Monday, will include competitions in handball, basketball, football, and volleyball.
The first edition of the Inter Formation Ball Games 2025 took place at the NDA Sports Complex located in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
During the opening, represented by Maj. Gen. Usman Yusuf, Commander of the Infantry Corps, Lt. Gen. Oluyede highlighted that the purpose of the event is to improve the fitness of soldiers.
The army chief noted that the games will significantly aid in building physical and mental resilience and in promoting teamwork and camaraderie among the troops.
He emphasised the necessity of consistent training for the advancement and development of the army.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede further explained that the event is intended to identify inherent talents, encourage collaboration, and foster unity among the personnel.
He stated: “This championship corresponds with the Nigerian Army’s command philosophy of establishing a well-motivated and combat-ready force.

“With these objectives in mind, the championship is poised to fulfill its aims and contribute to the army’s mission of safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and its citizens.
“The Nigerian Army, under my leadership, will persist in executing its duties forcefully against national adversaries and consistently working towards securing our territorial integrity and citizens.
“However, we require public support in the form of timely information to enable us to act effectively in ensuring security.”
Athletes have been selected from 1 Division, 2 Division, 3 Division, 6 Division, 8 Division, 81 Division, 82 Division, Army Headquarters Garrison, and the Special Forces Command.
