The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday inaugurated a new leadership as Elder Omeni Sobotie handed over to Chief Solomon Arenyeka as chairman of the party in the state.
The ceremony, held at the party’s secretariat in Asaba, marked the end of Sobotie’s tenure and the beginning of Arenyeka’s leadership following the completion of the party’s congresses across the state.
In his remarks, Sobotie thanked leaders and members of the party for their cooperation during his time in office, describing his tenure as a period of collective effort and unity among party faithful.
“I have had the privilege of serving as the chairman of our party in Delta State, even though it was for a relatively short period. During that time, we worked together as one family,” he said.
The outgoing chairman expressed confidence in the capacity of the new leadership to guide the party effectively, noting that Arenyeka possesses the experience and knowledge required to lead the APC in the state.
“I do not doubt that he possesses the requisite knowledge, experience, and capacity to pilot the affairs of the party successfully.
“My prayer is that God will grant him wisdom, strength, and guidance as he takes on this important responsibility,” Sobotie added.
He urged party members to remain united and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future political contests.
“Our collective goal remains the growth and strengthening of the APC in Delta State,” he said, adding that the party is now better positioned for the political challenges ahead.
Arenyeka in his acceptance speech, praised his predecessor for successfully overseeing the congresses that produced the new executive, describing Sobotie as a respected political figure and an experienced leader.

“Words cannot adequately express the gratitude we owe him for successfully midwifing the congresses that produced the new executive you see here today,” Arenyeka said.
He noted that the congress process, from the ward level to the state level, was peaceful and transparent.
“The process that led us here was smooth and seamless. From the ward congresses to the local government congresses and finally the state congress, everything was conducted peacefully and without any rancour,” he said.
Arenyeka assured members that the new leadership would build on the foundation laid by the outgoing executive, promising to sustain the values of unity and collective commitment within the party.
“With the solid foundation you have laid, we are confident that by 2027 we will achieve what I call a guaranteed goal. We will work tirelessly and collectively so that our labour will not be in vain,” he stated.
He also called on members of the new executive to emulate the dedication and discipline demonstrated by the outgoing leadership.
The new chairman pledged to work with party leaders and stakeholders to strengthen the APC and position it for future electoral success in Delta State.
