Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has publicly apologized to Nigerians following widespread backlash over his earlier comments in support of President Bola Tinubu.
In an emotional video shared on his Instagram page, the actor expressed deep remorse, admitting that his remarks were made without careful thought and were also misunderstood by many.
“I feel very remorseful right now. First, to all Nigerians, all well-wishers, and everyone who hopes for a better future for this country, please forgive me; I am sorry,” he said.
Afolayan also dismissed claims that he had been paid to support the government, insisting that such allegations were false.
He explained that his earlier comments were influenced by a personal and distressing experience involving insecurity in the country.
According to him, his best friend’s mother was kidnapped, and a significant ransom had to be paid to secure her release, an incident that left him shaken and frustrated.

“I shouldn’t be bringing this up… We paid millions for her release,” he revealed.
“What I meant to convey in the video is that when someone tells you nothing is happening, stay calm, don’t believe them; they are following a script. That’s all I intended to say.”
The apology comes after Afolayan faced criticism for remarks made at a political event linked to Tinubu’s 2027 campaign, where he had suggested the president was performing well and downplayed security concerns.
Acknowledging the reaction from the public, the actor admitted his comments had hurt many Nigerians. He emphasized that his success is largely due to the support of the people, not the government.
He further announced plans to steer clear of political involvement going forward, pledging to be more mindful in his public statements.
