The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another strategic step towards strengthening its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of the Tinubu Torchbearers, a women-focused movement dedicated to advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

At the Abuja ceremony on Friday, the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile, announced Dame Minnie Igbrude, as the coordinator of the Torchbearers for Delta State.

In her acceptance speech, Dame Igbrude expressed deep gratitude to Dr. Alile for entrusting her with the responsibility.

She promised to mobilise women across Delta State to consolidate support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and all APC candidates in the coming elections.

“This is more than an appointment; it is a call to serve,” Igbrude declared.

“We will carry the message of renewed hope into every ward, every community, every church, mosque, and market square. Delta women will unite in strength to secure victory at all levels.”

She praised Gov. Oborevwori for his consistent support for women, describing him as “a genuine friend and champion of women in Delta State.”

Igbrude also commended the governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and her You Matter Foundation, which she said “continues to touch and transform lives across the state.”

“Delta women are prepared. We will shine the torch of progress and ensure the light of President Tinubu’s achievements reaches every household in our state,” she added.

Earlier, Dr. Alile described the Torchbearers as a formidable coalition of women leaders, political actors, and grassroots influencers dedicated to amplifying the impact of President Tinubu’s policies.

She pointed to Tinubu’s reforms in the economy, infrastructure, agriculture, education, and social investment, particularly his initiatives on women empowerment, saying they must be projected widely to reinforce confidence in his leadership.

“We are not just keeping the flame alive for 2027,” Alile charged.

“We are setting the future ablaze with unity, vision, and passion. Let this moment go down in history as the time Nigerian women rose together to change the course of our nation.”

She also applauded First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her consistent drive to empower women through education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship initiatives under the Renewed Hope programme, stressing that the Torchbearers will expand the reach of these interventions at the grassroots.

On governance, Alile urged Nigerian women to intensify advocacy for the passage of the long-debated bill on special legislative seats for women, describing it as critical to improving gender balance in decision-making.

Speaking on behalf of other state coordinators, Princess Ekene Ozobu of Anambra State assured that the newly inaugurated movement would begin its mobilisation work without delay.
