The South-South zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected a fresh set of zonal executives at its congress held in Asaba, Delta State, with party leaders emphasizing unity and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.

The gathering attracted prominent stakeholders, including the Senate President, serving governors, legislators, and party delegates from across the region. Proceedings were conducted smoothly through a consensus-based approach, reflecting what leaders described as a deliberate effort to sustain internal harmony.

The exercise opened with the dissolution of the outgoing Zonal Executive Committee, following a motion moved by Emomotimi Guwor and seconded by Abraham Ingobere. Delegates unanimously approved the move.

Shortly after, the congress adopted consensus as the mode of electing new officers. The motion, moved by Essien Williams and seconded by Aniekan Bassey, received overwhelming support.

At the conclusion of the process, Victor Giadom emerged again as National Vice Chairman (South-South). Other officials elected include Ita Udosen as Secretary, Neworld Safugha as Legal Adviser, Samuel Nwanosike as Publicity Secretary, Urhoro Koyoyo as Youth Leader, Suobankuo Omoni as Women Leader, Prince Edward as Organising Secretary, and Ayo Peter representing Persons with Disabilities.

Addressing the congress, Senate President Godswill Akpabio conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the South-South has recorded significant political growth within the APC. He urged members to consolidate the gains and work towards delivering a strong electoral showing in 2027.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who hosted the event, described the congress as a clear indication of the party’s strengthening base in the region. He called for sustained grassroots engagement and improved party structures at all levels.

Also speaking, Douye Diri, Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, said the consensus model adopted would help minimize internal disagreements while promoting inclusiveness and shared responsibility among members.

In separate remarks, governors Umo Eno, Bassey Otu, Monday Okpebholo, and Siminalayi Fubara underscored the importance of aligning the zone more closely with the federal government to maximize political and developmental opportunities.

Earlier, Giadom expressed appreciation for the support he received during his previous tenure and pointed to the party’s expanding influence across the South-South. In accepting his re-election, he pledged to build on the progress made and further strengthen the APC’s presence in the region.

The congress, attended by ministers, lawmakers, and party leaders, ended with a renewed resolve among stakeholders to maintain unity, deepen grassroots mobilization, and position the APC for greater success in the years ahead.
