The first public hearing on the amendment to the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been held in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, to produce a document that reflects the country’s diversity.
Speaking at the occasion, the APC National Vice Chairman South-South, Chief Victor Giadom, emphasized the importance of inclusivity and representation.
He explained that the amendment will stand as the cornerstone of internal democracy and the embodiment of collective values and aspirations, since every voice matters and every perspective enriches the understanding of the issues.
Chief Giadom said that since the constitution is the fundamental principles or established principles that define collective agreement and rules for the day-to-day workings of the party, the amendment will also outline the powers, rights, and limitations of party members and its leadership.
The constitution, according to him, is not just a mega framework; it is a living testament to the commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law.
“As we embark on this important public hearing, starting from the south side too, let us reflect on the significance of constitutional amendment and the position of our great party for the ward, local government, states, and the national,” Gaidom said.

Declaring the public hearing open, Governor Bassey Otu said the amendment exercise is not oblivious to the fact that people need to make contributions to the party if they want to build a stronger APC.
Gov. Otu, who was represented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Elvert Ayabem, said that the APC will lay down a blueprint that will span across 50 years and beyond.
He said that the public hearing is one of the best and that Cross River State has the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the construction of the APC
Cross River State chairman of the APC, Alphonsus Eba, also emphasized the importance of having an inclusive constitution, revealing that there were about 100 memoranda that were submitted to the constitution review committee.
