Amid growing anticipation within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has confirmed that high-level consultations are underway to select a new National Chairman for Nigeria’s ruling party. This comes in the wake of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation from the top party position.
Speaking to journalists shortly after a closed-door meeting with fellow APC governors in Abuja on Wednesday, Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, disclosed that the process to replace Ganduje is ongoing and will adhere strictly to the party’s constitution. Ganduje, a former Kano State governor, had stepped down from his chairmanship on June 27, 2025, citing health concerns, less than a year after he was elected on August 3, 2023. In the interim, Deputy National Chairman Ali Dalori is steering the party’s leadership.
Uzodimma cautioned against speculation and emphasized that the final decision would be taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), which remains the highest decision-making body of the APC. He noted that Wednesday’s meeting was part of broader consultations aimed at ensuring a smooth and unified transition that will reinforce the party’s commitment to good governance.

According to him, the governors are also preparing to engage with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of Thursday’s NEC meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. The meeting is expected to address critical internal party matters, the national political outlook, and strategic steps to improve governance for millions of Nigerians.
Governor Uzodimma praised the ongoing reforms of the Tinubu administration, stressing that the APC is focused on translating those policies into tangible benefits for ordinary Nigerians. He expressed optimism that the party’s internal stability and policy direction will positively impact grassroots communities and restore public confidence in leadership.
As the APC looks to cement its position ahead of future elections, the outcome of these deliberations is expected to shape not just the party’s leadership, but also its strategy in driving President Tinubu’s vision for a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
