The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has moved closer to its 2026 congresses ahead of the 2027 general election, with Governor Umo Eno announcing the formation of an implementation committee to oversee the exercise.
Governor Eno made the disclosure on Friday, January 2, 2026, during the APC New Year Party Stakeholders Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Uyo. Addressing party leaders and supporters, the governor urged members to remain united and focused on the collective interest of the party as preparations intensify for future electoral contests.
To drive the process, the governor constituted a seven man congress implementation committee to work closely with the state party leadership. Prince Enobong Uwah was named chairman of the committee, while Hon. Dr. Patrick Umoh will serve as secretary. Other members include Hon. Frank Archibong, Mr. Nsentip Akpabio, Architect Ubokutom Nyah, Engr. Uwem Okoko, and Hon. Mrs. Owoideghe Ekpotai. Governor Eno charged the committee to consult widely and ensure a smooth and credible congress process.
The event also featured strong commendation from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who praised Governor Eno for fostering unity and stability across the state. Akpabio described Akwa Ibom as peaceful and cohesive, noting that the calm atmosphere throughout the Christmas period reflected effective leadership and collective resolve among stakeholders.
He said the governor had demonstrated vision and courage, adding that his decision to align with the APC in the interest of Akwa Ibom was timely and purposeful. Akpabio pledged continued support for Governor Eno beyond 2027 and called on party members to rally behind him to sustain development across the state.
