The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that it recognizes Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the national secretary of the party, as against the endorsement of Ude Okoye by the PDP national working committee.
It therefore urged its members to disregard the report circulated on Wednesday, by the PDP national working committee, rejecting Sen. Anyanwu and endorsing Okoye, as the party’s national secretary.
The report credited to the national working committee, the party declared, is nothing but fake news, fabricated by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, to misinform the public.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Imo State Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Abiaku and made available to journalists in Owerri.
He said the official position of the PDP national working committee remains that the status quo is maintained, meaning that Sen. Anyanwu retains his position until the Supreme Court rules otherwise.
“For emphasis, the acting National Chairman of our party, Umar Damagum, has since dissociated himself and the national working committee from Ologunagba’s charade, clarifying that the national publicity secretary had merely expressed his personal opinion, which does not represent the position of the national working committee.
“Damagum told newsmen in Abuja that the national working committee did not meet today; there was a WhatsApp discussion, but the Court of Appeal’s status quo ante bellum still stands.

“Imo PDP, therefore, urges its leaders, stakeholders, members, and the general public to disregard any report suggesting otherwise. The fake news and impersonation are merely part of the ploy by those whose interest lies in sowing confusion and chaos within the party,” the statement said.
It disclosed that Sen. Anyanwu was in his office today (Thursday, February 13, 2025), carrying out his duties as the bona fide national secretary of the PDP.
“We will continue to stand firmly behind Senator Anyanwu, our leader and illustrious Imo son, as the duly elected national secretary, especially as both the law and the party’s constitution continue to uphold his rightful and well-earned position,” Abiaku said.
