The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA) has arrested two individuals for alleged involvement in illegal revenue collection and extortion, as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on unauthorised levies across the state.
The suspects, identified as Michael Uwaoma and Ndubuisi Aniukwu, were apprehended at Mgbuka Obosi and Umusiome Junction in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, where they were accused of extorting traders and commercial operators.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by SASA spokesperson Karen James, the arrests followed enforcement operations targeting individuals engaged in illicit revenue activities.

She disclosed that preliminary investigations indicated that Aniukwu was allegedly acting on the orders of a certain individual identified as Onyekwelu, who reportedly imposed daily remittance targets on him.
The suspects have since been arraigned before a Magistrate Court and remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of their case.
The court, however, granted them bail under strict conditions, including a ₦100,000 bail bond, a ₦300,000 fine, and the provision of a verified Level 17 civil servant as surety. The matter has been adjourned to June 3, 2026, for further hearing.
SASA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on illegal levies and extortion, stressing its commitment to safeguarding legitimate businesses and restoring order in commercial areas across the state.
The agency also urged residents to report incidents of harassment and unlawful revenue collection to appropriate authorities.
The arrests come amid intensified operations by SASA, which recently destroyed illicit drugs valued at about ₦80 million during coordinated raids across multiple locations in Anambra, including Onitsha and surrounding communities.
