Women from Annang land in Akwa Ibom State have threatened to ostracise Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio over what they described as her persistent social media attacks and false allegations against her brother-in-law, the President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio.

The women, under the aegis of the Annang Women Advocacy Network International (AWANI), made the threat in a statement jointly signed by their President, Uduak Essien, based in Canada, and Secretary, Mary Enang, based in the United Kingdom.

In the statement dated October 22, 2025, the group accused Mrs. Patience Akpabio of “recklessly accusing” Senator Akpabio of murder without proof and warned her to immediately desist from such conduct or face traditional sanctions.

“Annang Women Advocacy Network will not stand idly by while you attempt to pull down our community, its values and our illustrious son,” the statement read in part. “Desist immediately from your abominable acts. Withdraw your venomous allegations before it’s too late.”

The women said they were ready to invoke “ngwo ntie,” a traditional practice of ostracism reserved for women who bring shame upon the community.

“Annang land will cease to be fruitful for you,” they warned. “You cannot buy or sell in our markets or benefit in any way from Annang and her people. You would be ostracised.”

Describing Mrs. Akpabio’s public comments as “a sin against both God and man,” the group accused her of bringing disrepute to her family and community.

“To insult and disgrace your brother-in-law, your husband, children, and grandchildren in the manner you are doing is to bring upon yourself the wrath of both God and man,” AWANI stated. “You are dancing naked in the market square.”

The women described her actions as “a direct affront to the respect and decorum held sacred in Annang land,” adding that such public conduct was both “disturbing and shameful.”

They further said her social media campaign was not only politically damaging but also spiritually dangerous.

“Your words, born of malice and deceit, seek to burn down a legacy built over decades, but will end up destroying you and those who support this abomination against Annang land and Akwa Ibom State,” the group said.

AWANI urged Mrs. Akpabio to apologise publicly to Senator Akpabio and his family and warned that failure to do so would attract grave consequences.

“Heed this warning and retrace your steps. Make amends or prepare to face dire consequences. Let this be the final word from the mothers and daughters of Annang land,” the statement added.
