The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two women, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, in connection with the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, Miss Oluebube Chukwuma, in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to Ikenga, operatives attached to the Ozubulu Police Division arrested the suspects on Monday, January 26, 2026, following what he described as “technologically driven information.”

He said the suspects, during interrogation, confessed to their involvement in the disappearance of the minor and disclosed that the girl is currently in Ghana.

“Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to Ozubulu Division, acting on a technologically driven information on the evening of January 26, 2026, arrested two female suspects, Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, over a reported case of a missing 16-year-old girl, Miss Oluebube Chukwuma, in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state,” the statement read.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being involved in the disappearance of the minor and disclosed that the victim is currently in Ghana.”

Ikenga added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further investigation.

He said the directive is aimed at uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the girl’s relocation and identifying other individuals who may be involved in the case.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the relocation of the girl and identify any other person(s) involved. Further updates will be provided as the investigations progress,” Ikenga stated.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over cases of abduction and trafficking of minors in the region. Recently, the Anambra State Police Command also announced the arrest of a 28-year-old man, Friday Akonobi, in connection with the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a six-year-old girl in a case linked to an Enugu-based suspected native doctor.

Police said investigations into the Ozubulu case are ongoing.
