There was a large turnout of voters on Saturday at the polling unit of former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, as residents trooped out to cast their votes in the ongoing governorship election.
A visit to Polling Unit 019, Umudim Akasi, Agulu Ward 2, in Anaocha Local Government Area, revealed that most of the voters were elderly women who arrived early and sat patiently awaiting their turn to vote.
The women, many of whom described voting as their civic responsibility, were seen chatting cheerfully, while officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) carried out accreditation before directing voters to the voting point.

Some voters at the scene commended the impressive turnout and expressed optimism that more residents would still arrive before the close of polls.
“This is one of the best turnouts we’ve seen here in a while,” a resident said. “People came out early, and everything is going smoothly.”
As voting continued in Agulu and other parts of Anaocha Local Government Area, observers described the calm and orderly process at Obi’s polling unit as a reflection of growing voter enthusiasm in the area.
