The nominees for the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA 2025) have been officially announced, with Femi Adebayo’s “Seven Doors” leading the way with an impressive 11 nominations.
Among these are accolades for ‘Best Lead Actor’ and ‘Best Lead Actress,’ earned by Adebayo himself and Chioma Akpota respectively, as well as a nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for Aliu Gafar. Adebayo is also recognized for his directorial talent, vying for ‘Best Director’ alongside Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo.
In second place, with 10 nominations, is “Lisabi: The Uprising,” directed by Niyi Akinmolayan. This film includes nominations for ‘Best Movie’ and ‘Best Lead Actor’ for Adedimeji Lateef. The pan-African entry “Skeleton Coast,” helmed by Robert Peters, has established itself as a noteworthy contender with eight nominations, including for ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Movie.’ Meanwhile, Jade Osiberu’s festive favorite “Christmas in Lagos” has received six nominations.
The award ceremony is scheduled for May 10, 2025, with public voting open until May 4 through the Africa Magic website.
The event features 27 award categories, of which 18 are determined by a jury’s decision and 9 are open to public voting. Additionally, there are two special honorary awards: the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards.
