Amnesty International has criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a “consistent failure” in protecting citizens following a deadly attack in Mbalom, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Easter Sunday.
According to the rights organisation on Monday, gunmen stormed the village during Easter celebrations, killing at least 17 people and leaving dozens more injured.
Homes and shops were reportedly set ablaze, forcing families to flee for safety.
“The Nigerian authorities have failed the people of Benue State again and again,” Amnesty said.

“Frequent attacks by gunmen have deprived thousands of residents of their rights to life, physical integrity, liberty, freedom of movement, and access to livelihoods.”
The group added that families are still searching for loved ones who remain missing following the assault.
Amnesty International also highlighted that ongoing violence has displaced more than 500,000 residents in the state, leaving many living in dire conditions.
