Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role on The Cosby Show, has passed away at the age of 54.
He drowned in water on Sunday while vacationing in Costa Rica.
However, the Judicial Investigation Agency of Costa Rica confirmed his death in an official statement.
Local authorities reported that Warner was swept out to sea by a current while swimming at Playa Grande around 2:00-2:30 PM local time in Cocles, a town in Limón province.
Warner portrayed Bill Cosby’s son on the popular sitcom from 1984 to 1992.
Witnesses reportedly rescued Warner and brought him to shore, where he was treated by the Costa Rican Red Cross.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In 1986, Warner received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance on The Cosby Show.

He was selected for the role by Bill Cosby during the final day of a nationwide audition.
After The Cosby Show, Warner appeared in various other TV shows, including Malcolm & Eddie, where he starred alongside comedian Eddie Griffin.
He also made guest appearances on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Sesame Street.
More recently, he played AJ Austin, a cardio-thoracic surgeon, on the medical drama series The Resident.
In addition to his acting career, Warner won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance in 2015, along with Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway, for their rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children of America.”
His spoken word album “Hiding in plain view” earned him another Grammy nomination in 2023.
