A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media, allegedly linking him to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Prof. Alkali in a statement made available to journalists, described the image as “fake, manipulated and maliciously crafted” to mislead the public and tarnish his political reputation.

The former National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) said the doctored image portrayed him at an unidentified event involving PDP members, noting that he had no connection whatsoever with the gathering depicted.

“My attention has been drawn to a disturbing image currently being circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms. The image was falsely linked to my display picture with PDP colours and symbols in the background,” he said.

He stressed that the timing of the circulation was suspicious, pointing out that it coincided with his active participation at the APC national convention held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Prof. Alkali said he attended the convention in an official capacity as chairman of the rapporteur and proceedings sub-committee, contributing to the success of the exercise.

“For over four decades in public and party life, I have avoided needless controversies, but this incident is too serious to ignore given its calculated intent,” he added.

The APC stalwart recalled that he formally resigned from the PDP nearly a decade ago, alongside other notable figures, insisting that any attempt to associate him with the party was both false and illogical.

He acknowledged his brief stint as the NNPP national chairman in 2022, noting that he stepped down honourably after the 2023 general elections before joining the APC.

Describing the development as a desperate attempt to create confusion, Prof. Alkali urged members of the public to disregard the image.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and his commitment to its future electoral success, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Alkali also hinted at a forthcoming political initiative tagged: “Tinubu 2 Terms – Forward Nigeria, 2027,” which he said would be unveiled soon.

He maintained that no amount of misinformation or blackmail would distract him from his political objectives.
