After it last lost a match against league leaders River United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on March 20, 2022, Akwa United has maintained a good form in April going 6 matches unbeaten.
Presently fifth on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table with 39 points from 25 games, the Promise Keepers of Uyo trail Remo Stars on fourth by a point difference.
Onward the unbeaten run, Akwa United held Rivers United to a one-all draw and extended it to the northern part of the country to couple Kano Pillars to a barren draw.
Following the goal stagnation, Akwa United reverberated a thunderstorm over Nasarawa United in a 6-1 humiliating defeat after they had drawn Gombe United at Gombe Township Stadium, Pantami, and narrowly slipped past Shoot Stars in a 2-1 victory.

However, head coach Ayodeji Ayeni has praised the team’s performance during this time stating that in his brief stay in charge, he has been able to assess the capacity of the Promise Keepers.
Ayeni, who has barely spent over a month with the team, assured that Akwa United can take on any team base on the towering strength of his team.
He said, “My first six games in charge of Akwa United have given me a great deal of knowledge about the capability and strength of my players and I’m confident that they can hold their own against any team in this league.
Ayeni joined Akwa United last month from Sunshine Stars after a poor run of results that saw the club wobble in 6th position with 15 points before the NPFL mid-season break.
