Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved N50,000 each as transport allowance for the 33,461 applicants who participated in the recently concluded Computer-Based Test (CBT) for civil service recruitment, a payout totaling more than N1.6bn.

The CBT exercise, which began on November 4, 2025, was conducted at the newly rehabilitated Civil Service Auditorium in Uyo. The facility now boasts over 400 new computers, upgraded networking systems and reliable power supply, ensuring a fully digital, transparent and efficient assessment process.

Governor Eno announced the transport-support package after receiving an update from the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong. He explained that the allowance was meant to cushion the cost borne by applicants during the exercise.

“People don’t come for interviews and walk away with nothing. Let them get the fifty thousand naira they spent on transport and lunch,” Eno said.

The Governor also revealed that applicants who did not meet the cut-off mark would be enrolled in the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Programme. He noted that although the state cannot absorb all applicants into the civil service, the increasing number of developmental projects across the state requires skilled manpower, making vocational training a viable alternative.

Eno disclosed that 4,000 successful applicants would receive their employment letters by the first week of March, after which they would undergo mandatory induction and training. He also directed the creation of a database of remaining successful candidates to be considered for future recruitment over the next two to three years.

In his presentation, Commissioner Ekpenyong reported that 37,314 people applied for the exercise, 33,461 sat for the test and 12,502 scored 50 per cent and above. He added that Persons with Disabilities received extended time, one hour instead of 40 minutes, though only one candidate in that category scored up to 60 per cent. Two other exceptional candidates from the general pool scored 90 per cent.
