The Police Command in Akwa Ibom State has announced the arrest of six individuals suspected of perpetrating a series of kidnappings that have plagued the Eket Local Government Area.
This development was detailed in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, during a press briefing in Uyo on Thursday.
“After receiving credible intelligence regarding an impending kidnapping operation targeting prominent figures in Eket, we launched a coordinated operation that resulted in the apprehension of six suspected kidnappers,” John elaborated.
The police operation began on Tuesday when law enforcement agents apprehended one Joseph Alafia in Oron Town. This initial arrest prompted further tactical raids on two additional locations within Eket, where more suspects were taken into custody.

During these operations, authorities seized several items believed to be instrumental in the kidnappers’ activities, including five mobile phones and a Lexus RX 300 vehicle, which bore the identification plate number KMR 491 AE. Investigators suspect that this vehicle was specifically utilized for executing their criminal plans.
The PPRO emphasized that the arrested suspects are believed to have connections to a number of recent kidnapping cases in the Eket area and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation to uncover further details and prevent future incidents.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, praised the vigilance and prompt response of the police officers involved in these operations, stating, “Their swift action not only led to these arrests but also demonstrates our commitment to combating crime.” Azare reiterated the dedication of the Akwa Ibom Police Command to uphold law and order and ensure the safety and security of all residents within the state.
