The Akwa Ibom State Government has vehemently dismissed a viral social media report alleging that Governor Umo Eno is planning to declare a “Biafra Remembrance Day,” describing the claim as baseless, misleading, and the product of “deranged minds.”
In a statement issued on Friday by the commissioner for information Mr Aniekan Umana, he urged the public to ignore the circulating report, stressing that it has no foundation in fact.
” This claim is entirely false. The post is the product of deranged minds, a fabrication that bears no connection to reality, reason, or rationality,” the statement reads
According to the government, Akwa Ibom remains one of the most peaceful and secure states in the country, and there have been “no agitations from any quarter to warrant such an irresponsible claim.”
Reaffirming its commitment to national unity, the government emphasized that the state remains a “proud and committed member of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ably led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”

It also clarified that the idea of declaring any form of “Biafra Remembrance Day” has never been discussed or considered at any level of the state administration.
” At no time has the State Government contemplated, or endorsed any such declaration”, it stated
The government warned that it will not hesitate to take action against individuals or groups who intentionally spread misinformation capable of causing public unrest.
” We will take appropriate action against those who peddle falsehood aimed at misleading the public or undermining the peace and unity we enjoy”, the statement added.
Residents were urged to rely on verified channels for accurate information and to avoid amplifying unfounded social media claims.
