Akure, the Ondo State capital, will experience a major shutdown of markets and shops this Friday as residents prepare to mark the historic Amole Festival. The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, issued a directive that all trading activities across the city be suspended in honor of the cultural celebration.
The announcement was made through the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Michael Adeyeye, who emphasized that the closure is a vital tradition tied to the sacred Amole Festival. He noted that no form of buying or selling will be allowed during the observance, urging traders and residents to comply with the royal directive.
According to the statement, only pharmacies and medical supply stores are exempted from the restriction. While business operations will pause, movement within the city will not be affected, as there will be no restrictions on traffic or free passage.
