A group under the banner of the APC Professionals Network (APN), has declared that Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s humility, while receiving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment petition proves he has no skeleton to hide.
APN President, Victor Oluwafemi, in a statement asserted that a man in the mould of the Senate president with such a humble background, cannot obviously be involved in such an allegation, leveled against him.
“He (Akpabio) had on Wednesday, openly declared that at no time in his entire life has he been involved in a sexual harassment.
“He went ahead to narrate his humble background; how his mother singlehandedly raised him, and his siblings.
“Our major concern here, is that the legislature is one of the oldest arms of government that is far bigger than any individual, and should be treated as a sacred institution,” the group said.

Oluwafemi said the Senate president followed all the laid down legislative procedures in handling the sexual harassment petition submitted to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, adding that, “if he had done otherwise, tongues would have wagged, and insinuations laced with various meanings adduced.
“But in this case, he (Akpabio) simply invoked the necessary instrument of power being the custodian of the Senate chamber. This development has been greatly misinterpreted in many quarters, and a heavy allegation leveled against him.
“Nigerians should first, and foremost consider the sanctity of the institution, it should not be dragged into the mud in the name of highly wired politics.
“From all indications, the Senate president has nothing to hide, as he has directed that the appropriate committees should kick-start the probe.
“We candidly advice Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to slow down, because she turning this whole thing into theatrics, causes embarrassment to the country
“Peace should be allowed to prevail, and the various committees involved should be allowed to do their work.”
