Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instructed his lawyers to withdraw all ongoing defamation lawsuits against several individuals, including a notable case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, after being moved by a New Year church sermon.
Akpabio announced this decision on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, where he attended a New Year Mass.
He shared that he had initiated nearly nine defamation lawsuits against those he accused of spreading falsehoods and tarnishing his reputation.
He explained that the priest’s sermon resonated with him on a personal level and prompted him to reconsider his legal actions.
After reflecting on the message, Akpabio felt as though the priest was addressing him directly, leading him to conclude all court cases.

In 2025, he had filed multiple high-profile defamation suits, including one against fellow senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan.
One of these cases involved a N200 billion lawsuit related to allegations of sexual harassment, which Akpabio denied and challenged her to substantiate in court.
Additionally, Akpabio’s wife had initiated separate defamation lawsuits over claims that she believed harmed her family’s reputation.
With this recent decision, Akpabio has effectively resolved all legal disputes related to defamation as the new year commences.
