The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has taken legal action against suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding the deletion of a viral video in which she mockingly apologised to him. The controversial clip, which has stirred heated reactions across social media, was described by Akpabio’s legal team as a clear violation of a judge’s order.
In a fresh application before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Akpabio’s legal counsel, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kehinde Ogunwumiju, urged the court to compel Akpoti-Uduaghan to take down the video from all her social media platforms. The video, posted on April 27, features the senator in a satirical tone, stating she was “sorry for the crime of maintaining dignity and self-respect” and regretfully mocking Akpabio for her refusal to “let him have his way.”
Ogunwumiju argued that the post not only flouts an existing judicial directive but also fuels public tension in an already sensitive political conflict. As part of the reliefs sought, Akpabio wants the court to order Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a formal apology in at least two national dailies and submit a sworn affidavit confirming full compliance.
