Former Osun State Governor and former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bisi Akande, who recently faced backlash for his comments regarding the 2020 #EndSARS protests, suggested on his X page on Friday that the protests were strategically aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu, who was then a prominent figure in the APC.
In a discussion on the podcast “State Affairs” hosted by journalist, Edmund Obilo, Akande claimed that the Obidients, a movement supporting Peter Obi’s candidacy in the 2023 presidential elections, orchestrated the #EndSARS protest from the United States with substantial financial backing.

He alleged that this effort was intended to end Tinubu’s political career, asserting that the protest was well planned and executed.
Akande noted that while he did not explicitly link Obi to the protests, he emphasized that the Obidients were indeed behind the #EndSARS movement.
He explained that not recognizing the protest as an ambush was simply a matter of not every attack being anticipated.
This position has drawn significant criticism from various quarters, reinforcing the contentious nature of the #EndSARS protests and the political dynamics within Nigeria.
