The newly appointed Commander of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, has pledged decisive leadership and sustained security operations as he formally assumed command in Taraba State.

Akaliro took over as the 5th Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke during a change of command ceremony held at the brigade headquarters in Jalingo, marking the end of the tenure of the outgoing commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.

In his first address after assuming command, Brigadier General Akaliro assured officers and soldiers that his leadership would build firmly on the achievements of his predecessor through effective administration, professional excellence, robust deterrence operations and exemplary command standards. He described the task ahead as a collective responsibility, stressing that operational success depends on discipline, teamwork and unwavering commitment.

The new brigade commander expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him. He also commended Brigadier General Uwa for his impactful leadership, noting that the foundations laid under his watch would serve as a springboard for improved security outcomes across the brigade’s area of responsibility.

Akaliro further pledged to strengthen ongoing military operations under Operation Whirl Stroke, with a focus on protecting lives, securing communities and sustaining peace in Taraba State and surrounding areas. He assured personnel of his readiness to lead from the front and foster a professional and motivated fighting force.

Earlier in his valedictory remarks, the outgoing commander, Brigadier General Uwa, praised officers and soldiers of the brigade for their dedication, discipline and professionalism, which he said accounted for the operational successes recorded during his tenure. He described his time in Taraba State as memorable and rewarding, urging the troops to give their full support to the new commander.

Uwa expressed confidence in Brigadier General Akaliro’s capacity to lead effectively, calling on personnel to extend the same loyalty and cooperation they showed him to ensure continuity and greater achievements.

The ceremony featured the formal signing of handing and taking over notes, decoration of the new commander with the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS insignia, as well as the symbolic lowering and hoisting of flags to signify the change of command.
