The Air Officer Commanding of the Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the airforce to building civil-military cooperation during the flag-off of events to mark the 61st anniversary of the service on Monday, in Bauchi.
The celebrations, a significant milestone is aimed at enhancing civil-military relations and demonstrating its evolving role in safeguarding national security and fostering community engagement.
He articulated the importance of the occasion, saying “this open day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service.”
Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi invited Nigerians to connect with their airforce and commended the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, for his visionary leadership and strategic guidance that have been instrumental in organizing the initiative.
He reaffirmed the airforce dedication to addressing the country’s pressing security challenges, ensuring that the citizens feel secure and supported.
The theme for this year’s celebration: “Come see your airforce,” encapsulates the initiative’s goal of promoting public awareness and appreciation of the functions of the airforce.

The event is set to feature a range of activities, including guided tours of facilities, spectacular aircraft exhibitions, and interactive sessions designed to foster open dialogues between airforce personnel and the public.
Additionally, outreach programmes targeting schools will include career talks, mentorship activities, and informative sessions to inspire the next generation.
The open day festivities will take place from May 1 to May 15, 2025, across multiple airforce bases, including those in Makurdi, Bauchi, Lagos, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Kano, and several others, ensuring widespread participation and accessibility.
In a goodwill message delivered by his Chief Security Adviser, Abdulrahman Ahmed, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, commended the growth and operational effectiveness of the airforce, particularly in combating banditry and insurgency in the region.
He called for heightened surveillance along Bauchi’s borders with Plateau, Gombe, and Taraba States, while urging strengthened collaboration among all security agencies to further enhance safety and security.
The highlight of the celebration includes, visits from school children, career guidance sessions, and interactive engagements with various airforce units stationed at the base.
