A United Nigeria Airlines flight from Asaba to Lagos descended into chaos on Monday morning after a violent clash between social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, and comedian Francis Ezenwa, widely called Mr Jollof. What should have been a routine boarding process turned into an unexpected spectacle that forced security intervention and delayed the flight by more than an hour.
The confrontation erupted moments after passengers settled into their seats. Witnesses said VeryDarkMan walked toward Mr Jollof and revived their long-running online feud with a heated exchange that escalated almost immediately. Shaky videos recorded by passengers show both men wrestling in the aisle as startled travellers called for calm. Overhead compartments shook as the struggle intensified, and some passengers attempted to move out of harm’s way.
An unusual detail soon drew widespread attention. Several bystanders confirmed that Mr Jollof bit VeryDarkMan on the chest during the scuffle, leaving a clear mark. In a video later recorded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, VeryDarkMan displayed the injury with a mixture of humour and defiance, insisting he had delivered the first blow as promised in earlier online posts.
Cabin crew and security officials intervened quickly, escorting both men off the aircraft. The airline has yet to release a formal statement, though staff close to the matter said the incident is under review and could attract sanctions or a travel ban for the two men.

The feud between the pair has simmered for months. Both men have built large online followings through provocative commentary, frequent disputes and a willingness to escalate conflicts in public view. Their latest clash drew immediate nationwide reaction, with the hashtag #VDMvsJollof dominating social media throughout the day. Many users voiced amusement, while others raised concerns about safety standards on domestic flights and the growing trend of unruly behaviour among public figures.
Aviation analysts noted that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria may examine the incident once official reports are submitted. Last year, a separate confrontation between a passenger and crew disrupted another United Nigeria Airlines flight, raising continuing questions about discipline and enforcement in the Nigerian air travel sector.
As the investigation unfolds, the mid-air altercation that never left the ground has already etched itself into the country’s online culture. What began as insults traded across social media has now produced a real-world flashpoint, leaving both celebrities with more scrutiny than they bargained for and the airline facing renewed pressure to manage disruptive behaviour on board.
