The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, Benin City, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, has emphasized the need for senior officers in Delta and Edo State to lead by example by upholding professionalism, discipline, and intelligence-led policing in the fight against crime.
Addressing Commissioners of Police and other top-ranking officers during a high-level security conference in Benin, AIG Garba urged the leadership of the Delta and Edo State Police Commands to be proactive in their operations. He stressed that maintaining order and public peace requires strategic thinking, discipline—both personal and professional—and unwavering loyalty to the Nigeria Police Force.
The conference, which brought together Deputy Commissioners of Police in charge of Operations and Criminal Investigation Departments as well as members of the Zonal Management Team, focused on innovative strategies to drastically reduce crime rates and improve community safety. AIG Garba applauded the existing efforts by officers across both states but encouraged a continuous revamp of anti-crime measures to keep pace with evolving criminal tactics.
Two days after the conference, the AIG extended his consultations to include Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders, and Intelligence Officers from both Delta and Edo. He charged them to take full control of their Areas of Responsibility (AORs), mobilize Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and ensure rapid, efficient responses to all incidents. He reiterated that effective policing depends on boots-on-the-ground leadership and intelligence-sharing across all units.

On a more reflective note, AIG Garba took time to felicitate with Christian faithfuls across the Zone as they marked the Easter celebration. He encouraged them to embrace the spirit of Easter by praying for unity, peace, and prosperity in their communities and the nation at large. He also assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, had implemented robust security measures to guarantee a peaceful and incident-free Easter season.
In a final call to citizens, the AIG urged members of the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious, encouraging them to report suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. According to him, community participation remains a cornerstone of effective policing and a crime-free society.
