The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State, Sir Festus Ahon, has reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains unwaveringly focused on governance and the development of the state, urging the public to disregard misleading narratives suggesting otherwise.
Ahon made this clarification on Sunday in Asaba while responding to a media controversy surrounding a personal article written by Mr. Felix Ofou, an Executive Assistant on New Media to the Governor. The article, which addressed remarks by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege at an APC event in Oghara, has been misinterpreted by sections of the media to imply discord between Governor Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Expressing dismay over the situation, Ahon emphasized that Governor Oborevwori has consistently demonstrated support for President Tinubu and enjoys a harmonious working relationship with the President. He noted that the Governor has repeatedly called on Deltans and Nigerians to support the President, emphasizing the interconnectedness of their successes.
“The Governor has consistently urged Deltans and other Nigerians to continue to give support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Ahon said. “He believes that if the President fails, his administration as Governor will also face challenges. This perspective was clearly expressed by the Governor during the Urhobo Progress Union event on December 7th.”

At the event, Governor Oborevwori appealed for unity and support, stating: “I want to appeal to the Urhobo nation today. I am an Urhobo man and the Governor of Delta State. Whether you like it or not, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is supporting this administration. God has made him the President, just as God has made me the Governor of Delta State. As you are supporting me, support him, because if he fails, I will fail. But by the grace of God, he will not fail, and I will not fail.”
The Governor also highlighted President Tinubu’s appointments of Delta State indigenes to strategic positions, describing these as a testament to the President’s commitment to the state’s development.
Ahon clarified that Governor Oborevwori has not criticized President Tinubu’s economic policies and remains focused on delivering good governance despite current economic challenges. “It is imperative to categorically state that the views expressed in Ofou’s article do not reflect those of the Governor,” Ahon said. “Governor Oborevwori is fully committed to working for the benefit of Deltans and ensuring that the state thrives under his leadership.”
He urged the public to disregard any misleading reports, reiterating the Governor’s focus on fostering development and navigating the economic challenges faced by citizens.
