The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has alleged that vandals have attacked its 330kv from Lokoja- Gwagwalada transmission line over the weekend.

A statement signed by the TCN General Manager Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, disclosed that after failed attempts by engineers to renergise the 330kv Lokoja- Gwagwalada transmission line, it was discovered that transmission tower T306, T307 and T308 along line one had been vanderlized, disrupting bulk power transmission along that route.

The TCN added that further examinations revealed that the vandals stole spans of aluminum conductors from line one and the Lokoja- Gwagwalada line two.

Mbah assured that efforts are underway to source replacements for the vandalized aluminum conductors for the two spans stolen from the lines.

The TCN expressed great concerne over the rising trend in vandalism, targeting lines and towers, negatively impacting the communities infrastructure and hindering the expansion, and stability of the national grid.

“The incident adds to an alarming pattern of attacks on the transmission network nationwide” the statement further stated, adding that at the Gwagwalada area alone, recent acts of vandalism including the attacks on the Gwagwalada- Kubwa- Apo transmission line areas, and other acts of vandalism continue to disrupt the stability and the growth of the national grid.

Mbah therefore appealed to the public, especially communities hosting transmission lines to collaborate with TCN and security operatives to combat acts of vandalism.
