The African Union has issued a strong condemnation of the United States for its military actions in Venezuela and the reported capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
In a statement released on Saturday, the organization expressed serious concern over the situation in Venezuela, particularly following reports of attacks on government institutions.
The African Union highlighted that the alleged abduction of President Maduro and the military strikes raise significant issues regarding adherence to international law and the sovereignty of independent nations.
The organization reaffirmed its dedication to global principles such as national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the right of peoples to shape their own futures, as stated in the United Nations Charter.

The AU emphasized that dialogue and peaceful engagement are the most effective means to address political and internal issues. It cautioned that the use of force could exacerbate the situation and destabilize the region.
According to the African Union, the challenges facing Venezuela can only be resolved through inclusive political dialogue led by Venezuelans themselves, rather than through external military intervention.
The AU also expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and called on all parties involved to exercise restraint, responsibility, and respect for international law to prevent further escalation and maintain regional peace.
