Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle expressed his satisfaction following Nigeria’s 4-0 win, viewing it as a strong declaration of their intentions in the tournament.
Nigeria delivered an outstanding performance against Mozambique, characterized by purpose, direction, urgency, and precise execution in Fès on Monday.
Victor Osimhen, marking his 50th appearance for Nigeria at the senior level, scored twice, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams each added a goal, securing the Super Eagles’ place in the quarter-finals of the 35th AFCON finals.
“I am pleased with this game. This significant victory, with four goals, clearly shows our intent,” Chelle told the press.
The coach commended his players for their performance but cautioned against complacency, emphasizing that this was just the beginning.
“I am very happy and proud of my players. They played exceptionally well, but this is only one match,” he remarked.
Looking forward, Chelle confirmed the team’s travel plans and preparations for the quarter-finals.
“We will depart for Marrakech on Wednesday to get ready for a crucial match against Algeria or DR Congo,” he stated.
Chelle stressed the importance of maintaining high intensity as Nigeria aims for further advancement.

“My responsibility now is to remain ambitious, train hard, and keep the team’s intensity and aggressiveness,” he said.
He warned against becoming overly excited about their success, highlighting the risks of losing focus.
“We haven’t achieved anything extraordinary. We just won one game, and we need to keep improving,” Chelle added.
On the topics of discipline and unity, the coach insisted that internal matters would remain confidential.
“What happens on the field stays within the team. My role is to keep the players focused,” Chelle concluded.
