Former Governor of Edo State and National Legal Adviser of the Africa Democratic Party (ADC), Oserheimen Osunbor on Monday raised an alarm that democracy is on the verge of collapse in Nigeria.

He pointed out that even though Nigerians are disillusioned because of poor governance, the ADC is on a rescue mission.

Osunbor made this disclosure in a brief handover ceremony in Abuja, as the outgoing National Legal Adviser, Peter Oyewole handed over to him.

He hailed Oyewole saying: “I want to commend your role in ensuring compliance with all the processes that were needed to ensure a very smooth coalition into the ADC.

“Your party the ADC is now our party and I commend you for ensuring due diligence and due compliance with all the processes that were required to ensure that the coalition came about successfully.

“I should also commend you, you just told me about cases in court, litigations that you have been handling very competently together with your team of lawyers and the volunteers, the legal practitioners who have offered their services pro bono to ADC under your leadership you have done very well.

“I do hope and expect that the services you have been rendering to ADC will not cease with this handover, you are not offloading everything to me because you have institutional memory about how far ADC has gone up to this very moment and we will be relying on that institutional memory.

“Don’t feel distant from us, we will continue to count on your support as we count on the support of every Nigerian including legal practitioners many of whom as you said have already offered to support and assist this party pro bono. So we will be counting on your continued support.

“The ADC has come to become a beacon of hope for Nigerians who have become so dejected and frustrated by the nature of the governance that we are experiencing in Nigeria today.

“Everywhere people are disillusioned to the extent that I believe that our democracy and indeed the nation is under serious threat of disintegration, our democracy is under serious threat and Nigerians are looking up to ADC to be able to move out of this APC led government that has led Nigerians with lies and deceit and people are being plunged into penury day after day.

“The level of poverty is very high and people are looking up to ADC to rescue Nigerians from the unfortunate situation in which we find ourselves, that our hard won democracy is being seriously threatened by the government in place.

“So we are very mindful of this onerous responsibility that Nigerians expect us to play and as I said before I hope that we will continue to work together to ensure that the aspirations of Nigerians are fulfilled by ensuring the emergence of ADC led federal government in 2027 and also ADC being in control of many states of the federation.

“We are not in this race just simply to remove APC from the position they now occupy as if they are conquerors of Nigerians but we offer credible leadership.

“We know that government should cater to the welfare and well-being and security of the people which now is very lacking.
We are very mindful of what we should be doing to put a smile back on the faces of Nigerians.

“We know very well that Nigerians are suffering and we know that Nigerians are looking up to us to take all necessary steps required to ensure that government is all about people and not about personal aggrandizement or just lining your personal pocket with money.

“The wealth, the resources of Nigeria must go to the benefit of Nigerians, not a few”, he added.
