Fresh controversy has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the circulation of an alleged resignation letter linked to Nafiu Bala Gombe amid the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.

The document, which surfaced on social media, was shared by influencer Emma IK Umeh, popularly known as Tcee. Dated May 18, 2025, the letter indicates that Bala stepped down from his position as a member of the party’s National Working Committee, with effect from May 26, 2025.

According to the content of the letter, the decision was taken to allow for a smooth coalition process and internal restructuring within the party. However, Bala reportedly stated that he remained a member of the ADC and was willing to serve in other capacities.

In a separate correspondence addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party confirmed receipt and acceptance of the resignation in line with its constitution and the Electoral Act 2022. The letter also requested the commission to update its records to reflect the development.

The correspondence was said to have been signed by former ADC National Chairman Ralph Okey Nwosu and National Secretary Said Baba Abdullahi.

Although the authenticity of the documents has not been independently verified, their emergence has intensified the leadership crisis within the party, raising fresh questions about competing claims to its national leadership.

The development comes shortly after INEC removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as ADC National Chairman and National Secretary.

INEC had also stated that it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe as national chairman, opting instead to suspend recognition of all factions within the party pending the outcome of ongoing litigation at the Federal High Court.

With legal battles and internal disagreements continuing, the ADC faces growing uncertainty over its leadership structure as stakeholders await a final judicial pronouncement.
