The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a total of N762 million for an electricity project and the procurement of an official vehicle, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
According to Iliya, the council approved N598 million for the rerouting of electricity supply from Wuro Nyanka in Shelleng Local Government Area to Borrong in Demsa Local Government Area. He explained that the project is expected to be completed within three months.
He noted that the new arrangement will provide the Borrong community with an alternative electricity supply route through transmission towers from Wuro Nyanka, eliminating the need for power lines to cross the River Benue.

The commissioner further revealed that the council approved the sum of N164 million for the procurement of a vehicle for the Ministry of Environment. The contract was awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited, with delivery expected within the same three-month period.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure and Community Development, Solomon Titus, said the existing electricity towers have long posed challenges to stable power supply in Borrong.
He explained that recurring flooding of the River Benue often weakens and erodes a transmission tower located on a small island in the middle of the river, resulting in frequent collapses and power disruptions.
Titus added that the decision to reroute the electricity line is aimed at providing a lasting and cost-effective solution to the persistent problem, while improving electricity supply to the affected communities.
