The Adamawa State Government has called on university students to reduce reliance on government payroll jobs and instead embrace skills acquisition as a pathway to success after graduation.
Dr. Michael Zira, Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), made this appeal during an interactive session with students from Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAU) Yola at his office on Thursday.
According to him, Adamawa could see poverty levels decline by as much as 40 percent by next year, citing the sustained efforts and investments of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in youth and women empowerment through the PAWECA initiative.
Dr. Zira emphasized that vocational training and entrepreneurial skills remain critical for graduates in today’s competitive economy. He urged the students to take advantage of the opportunities provided by PAWECA before embarking on their National Youth Service, noting that such training would position them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
