The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into six youths arrested during a joint security operation in Lamurde Local Government Area following a reported gunshot incident.
The Command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists yesterday. He explained that the arrests were made during intensified patrols aimed at preventing further escalation of tensions associated with the Chobo/Bachama communal unrest.
According to the statement, gunshots were heard around midnight between February 15 and 16, 2026, behind Cottage Hospital in Kunduli, Tingno, Lamurde LGA. Security operatives who were on patrol in the area reportedly encountered a group of young men.
The suspects allegedly verbally abused the officers and made provocative remarks, prompting their immediate arrest.
The suspects were identified as Abiola Ayuba, 27; Mark Yakubu, 22; Yamauyinzin Elias, 18; Gabriel Danladi, 22; Yunarwe Barnabas, 21; and Japheth Agai, 20.

They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yola for further interrogation. Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to ascertain their possible involvement in the gunshot incident and any links to the communal disturbances in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to maintain peace and order in Lamurde and its environs.
