The Adamawa State Police Command has denied allegations of torture and coercion made by a suspect in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Thomas Godwin, popularly known as “Zamfara.”
In a viral video circulating on social media, Umar Ibrahim identified as Sarkin Pawa of Kala’a alleged that he and other suspects were tortured, denied food, and forced to confess to crimes they did not commit.
Reacting to the claims, the Command on Thursday, issued an official statement dismissing the allegations as false and misleading.
The police clarified that nine individuals were arrested in connection with the murder following preliminary investigations.

The suspects identified by the police include, Sunday Terrang, Umar Ibrahim, Sadiq Ishaku, Solomon Gideon, Ahmed Aminu, Danlami Ali, Godwin Chakukuyada, Akacha Daniel Samari, Ibrahim Bakari
The statement further noted that the case and suspects were transferred to the Force Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRRT) in Abuja for further investigation.
The Command emphasized that all statements by the suspects were recorded in the presence of the State Legal Aid Council and captured on video.
“At no point were the rights of any suspect violated,” said SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer. “All procedures were carried out professionally, adhering to international best practices and standard investigative protocols.”
The Command condemned the viral video, calling it a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, attract undue sympathy, and cast doubt on the integrity of the investigation.
While affirming its respect for freedom of expression, the police urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims that could interfere with the ongoing probe.
