In a significant breakthrough against child trafficking, the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, has reunited 14 children with their families after they were rescued from traffickers who had taken them from the state to Anambra State.
The emotional reunion took place at the deputy governor’s office, where Prof. Farauta expressed deep concern over the rising trend of child trafficking in the state, describing it as a “monster” that must be eradicated.
The children, aged between four and nine years, were reportedly trafficked by a woman identified as Ngozi Abdulwahab, who posed as a petty trader operating a provision shop in Jambutu ward of Yola North Local Government Area.
Using snacks and gifts to lure the children, Abdulwahab allegedly sold them for sums ranging from N800,000 to N1.7 million per child.

“Today, I am proud to announce that we have successfully rescued and rehabilitated 14 of our children,” Farauta said.
“They have undergone full medical examinations, received psychological support, and are now ready to be reintegrated into their families.”
She affirmed that the state government is committed to ensuring justice is served, adding that the suspect will face the full weight of the law.
To support the affected families, the deputy governor announced that each parent would receive N100,000 in cash, along with food and non-food items to help stabilize their households.
She also disclosed plans to support small-scale enterprises for the families.
Prof. Farauta directed the Ministry of Women Affairs and local government welfare departments to carry out routine follow-up visits to monitor the children’s reintegration and general well-being.
“This administration will not relent in its efforts to protect the rights and futures of our children,” she stated.
