The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a N22.8 billion budget virement to boost infrastructure, water supply, and youth development initiatives under the current 2025 fiscal plan.

The virement was approved during a council meeting chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.

The meeting approved the reallocation of funds in the state’s existing N486.2 billion budget without increasing the overall size.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Emmanuel Pridimso, announced the decision, citing inflationary pressures and depleted allocations across ministries.

“This is a strategic reshuffling of resources to meet pressing demands without exceeding the approved budget envelope,” he said.

Of the total N22.8 billion reallocated, N14.8 billion is earmarked for capital projects, while N8 billion will cover recurrent expenditures, including salaries and overhead costs for ministries and agencies.

Pridimso clarified that the virement consolidates all internal reallocations made since January, ensuring the printed revised budget reflects the state’s current priorities transparently.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Ayuba Audu, revealed that N360 million has been set aside for the upgrade of the Gulak Water Scheme in Madagali Local Government Area.

The project will involve laying over 12.4 kilometers of new pipelines to improve clean water access in the region.

He added that water projects are currently ongoing in 17 local government areas, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to essential public utilities.

In a related update, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Neido Geoffrey, addressed the recent repatriation of 13 trafficked children from Anambra State who were originally from Adamawa State.

She confirmed their safe return and emphasized efforts to ensure their full rehabilitation.

“We are working with security and child welfare agencies to provide proper care for the children,” she said, urging parents to remain vigilant.

“Please do not send your children on errands late at night. Human trafficking is a growing threat.”
