Civil rights activist, Aisha Yesufu has announced her decision to officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC),, marking her first time as a registered member of any political party.
Yesufu made this announcement at a public event attended by prominent political figures, including former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former Senate President, David Mark, and former House of Representatives Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.
In her speech, Yesufu highlighted the importance of national unity in addressing common challenges, stating that Nigerians are already united by issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and governance failures.
“We are all affected by the insecurity that plagues every region. We are all facing unemployment. We are all dealing with the failures in governance,” she remarked.
She urged Nigerians to reject divisive narratives, emphasizing that the country’s problems transcend ethnic, religious, and regional boundaries.
Yesufu called for collective action to rebuild the nation into a place that citizens can take pride in.
She described her decision to join the ADC as significant, stating that this moment is about serious national engagement rather than celebration.

“The absence of a party banner signifies that this is not a time for festivities. Now is the time for Nigerians to take the lead,” she said, while encouraging the ADC to “arise and shine.”
Addressing Obi, whom she referred to as her leader, Yesufu clarified her stance on political affiliation.
“I have never been part of any political party and have avoided becoming a registered member. However, as my leader, I promise to proudly become a card-carrying member of the ADC,” she stated.
Yesufu also reminisced about past struggles alongside the political leaders present, recalling shared experiences with David Mark and Aminu Tambuwal during earlier pro-democracy movements.
