After months of suspension, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja-Kaduna train service will officially resume operations on October 1, 2025. The development comes as a relief to thousands of passengers who rely on the route for safe and efficient travel between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
According to the new timetable released by the NRC, the first train from Abuja will depart the Idu station at 8:45 a.m., make a stop at Kubwa station by 9:05 a.m., and is expected to arrive at the Rigasa terminal in Kaduna by 12:42 p.m. For the return journey, the Kaduna-Abuja service will leave Rigasa at 2:30 p.m., stop at Kubwa by 6:02 p.m., and arrive back at Idu station by 6:23 p.m.

In addition to the adjusted schedule, the NRC stated that every Wednesday will now be dedicated to routine maintenance of the Abuja-Kaduna rail line. This, officials say, is to guarantee safety, efficiency, and long-term reliability of the service.
The Abuja-Kaduna train service has been one of the busiest and most patronized rail corridors in Nigeria since its inauguration, providing an alternative to road travel. The latest announcement is expected to boost confidence among passengers and restore the convenience of rail commuting on the route.
