Indigenous communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will on Saturday, December 13, 2025, confer the Nigeria Infrastructure Minister of the Year Award on the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, in recognition of what they describe as unprecedented infrastructure development across Abuja’s satellite towns and outer districts.
The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by the Secretary-General of the Karu Gbagyi Development Association, Samuel Aye, who said FCT residents have “never witnessed this scale of infrastructural transformation” since the creation of the territory.
According to Aye, the award ceremony will take place at the Jummai Aduda Townhall in Karu District, and will also feature honours for other distinguished personalities, a public lecture on the FCT 2026 elections, scholarship presentations, and an empowerment scheme for residents of Karu Chiefdom. The lecture will be delivered by Nigeria’s former Ambassador to The Gambia, Ayuba Ngbako.
Unprecedented Projects Under Wike
The Karu community praised Wike for several completed and ongoing projects, describing him as a “development-focused minister who has written his name in the annals of good governance.”

– Completion of the Kugbo Bus Terminal and Kugbo International Market.
– Award of contracts for the reconstruction of Karu township roads.
– Ongoing work on the Karu Water Supply Project (Lot 2) launched in August 2025.
The water project involves laying 194 km of pipes to supply clean water to communities in Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, and surrounding areas, an initiative expected to improve public health and reduce waterborne diseases for hundreds of thousands of residents.
Political Harmony and Appointments
The statement also commended Wike for maintaining cordial relations with former federal lawmaker Senator Philip Aduda and for supporting the appointment of Aduda’s son-in-law, Engr. Richard Dauda, as the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Aye further highlighted Wike’s decision to terminate the long-stalled Apo–Karshi Road contract and reassign it to a more competent contractor, a move that revived a project considered crucial to easing traffic and improving mobility for FCT residents.
Appeal for Inclusion in Federal Appointments
However, the group appealed to the Minister to intervene in what they described as the exclusion of FCT indigenes from federal appointments, noting that none had been appointed as a career or non-career ambassador, nor to the board of the North Central Development Commission.
The indigenous communities reaffirmed their support for the FCT Administration under Wike, praising him for transforming the nation’s capital into a “major construction hub” with active development projects across all six area councils.
